‘We need to get out of the way’: Police on the hunt for missing children

LOS ANGELES — A day after a 7-year-old girl went missing from her Los Angeles neighborhood, police said they have recovered the remains of a 6-year, 6-foot-3-inch girl found by a neighbor.

Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said Friday that detectives found the body of the unidentified girl Tuesday at a home in the 700 block of North Greenleaf Avenue in Los Angeles.

Beck said the girl’s mother found the child naked and “completely unresponsive” and called 911 to report the girl missing.

The LAPD said the child had been missing since March.

The LAPD said that the girl was in a state of extreme distress and was “physically and mentally incapacitated.”

The LAPD did not immediately release the girl or her identity.

The Los Angeles Fire Department was also on the scene of the scene Tuesday afternoon, and officials were searching for a woman in a white SUV who was reported missing from the same neighborhood on Friday.

The woman, who had been staying at the same house as the girl, was later identified by the LAPD as 33-yearold Laura Crespo.

Crespo has a criminal history that includes convictions for assault, battery and burglary, according to police.

The mother of the girl who went missing on Friday said she did not know the girl had been found and did not want to press charges against Crespol.

The mother said she had asked police to wait for more information from her daughter’s family, but that police never returned her call.

Beck did not say when or where the child’s body was found.

The girl’s father, who lives in the same street as the missing girl, said he was “stunned” and “heartbroken” that police had not made contact with him in time to find her.

He said he is grateful for the quick response by police and his daughter’s mother.

The missing girl was the last known child to be reported missing in the L.A. area.

Her mother reported her missing in early February after she failed to return home from a school trip.

Police said the mother was seen walking from the home with a man who said he had a phone number for her.

She was found on March 9 at a gas station in the 5200 block of South Greenleaf.

Authorities have said Crespole may have fled to Mexico, and authorities have said there is no indication that she knew the child.
